COVID 19 Grants and Funding - New Zealand Charitable Trusts
An update on the impact the COVID 19 virus is having on the NZ Charitable Trust sector.
FundingNZ has strong relationships with most funders in New Zealand and is currently receiving updates daily on the status of funders and COVID 19 Grants.
Firstly, some funders have already assured FundingNZ that they have sufficient funding in reserve to cover the next 2-3 years, which is great news to hear!
In fact, a few are collaborating with others to see if they can ramp up the funding for NGO’s because they know that the pressure is going to be felt by Not for Profits, as distressed clients seek assistance.
A few are also takIng the opportunity to increase their allotment of funding for 2020 based on the severity of the current circumstancesand the social impact COVD 19 will have over the coming year. Sky City is one example.
At this stage, the immediate impact has only been felt by the gaming trusts as their revenue stream has stopped due to the lock down and the closing of pubs. However, not all have been affected so far, as some have sufficient reserves to carry them through this lockdown.
I suspect, there will be many Charitable Trusts who will have lost capacity and capability in the funding area due to the lockdown which could impact their ability to donate for the short to medium term. It is important to know who is giving and who is not.
Consequently, FundingNZ has created a Charitable Trust Heat Map that provides the status of funders, this has been incorporated into the funding report to our clients.
It basically informs you of who is still giving and who is in preservation mode. This is being updated as news comes in from funders.
Throughout COVID 19, it is important to keep up the momentum in funding applications to Charitable Trusts and my advice is:
INCREASE YOUR OPPORTUNITY - Add additional Charitable Trusts into your Funding Schedule who you feel may be able to provide funding.
STRENGTHEN YOUR CASE FOR SUPPORT - Strengthen your case for support using new narrative.
COVID 19 - GRANTS AND FUNDING - Keep an eye out for new funds that open for application as a consequence of COVID 19 i.e grants and funding that may become availabile through existing Charitable Trusts
COVID 19 - GOVERNMENT GRANTS AND FUNDING - Keep an eye out for new funds that open for application as a consequence of COVID 19 i.e grants and funding that may become available through Government
If any NGO’s are having an issue maintaining their Charitable Trust funding then feel free to talk to us about your grant and funding needs during COVID 19. FundingNZ has operated an e-office for many years and is in a great position to support the funding needs of the Not for Profit sector
